Error While Importing Blog From Blogger To WordPress-Solved

WordPress users uses WordPress blogger import plugin to import blogs from Blogspot to WordPress. Recently when I tried to import one of my blog from Blogger to WordPress I got the following error,
The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows:
The site “http://mysite.com” has not been registered.
Since the site was already added to Google, I suspected my WordPress installation and the Blogger import plugin version. But could not confirm any of these. Since I did not have much time to do more research, I just searched in Google and WordPress forums to find a solution but failed. No solution provided to fix the actual issue. import blogger to wordpress
Based on few indications from all the discussion forms I tried three procedures. One of the method I have already mentioned in one of my earlier post titled Blog Converter Tools – Convert To and From Different Blog Services.

Method 1. Register your domain to Google

You can add your domain to Google if you want to connect to any of the Google products through a program or application. Go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageDomains and register your domain. After adding your domain name you need to prove that you are the owner of the domain. For that you can choose one of the several method of verifications. Either you can upload a file with Google verification code in it or you can add a meta tag or even you can use Google analytics account. Choose the appropriate option and complete the verification steps. Once this is done try the to import the blog posts again from WordPress Import (Dashboard->Tools->Import->blogger)section.
The problem I faced because I missed the verification process. In fact I uploaded the file but Google was not able to reach that after some of the file upgrade process.

Method 2. Using Google blog converters appengine

Using the blog converter appengine you can convert Blogger XML file to WordPress WXR format file. The steps mentioned in the post Convert To and From Different Blog Services. But the drawback of this tool is that it accepts files which are below 2MB. If you have hundreds of posts then you cannot use this tool. You may need to Batch export your Blogger files to Google blog converters appengine.

Method 3. Use WordPress.com services.(Please don’t misuse it)

You can create free blogs using WordPress.com. It is a great platform and great service. Create a new blog in WordPress.com.Follow the below instructions to convert your Blogger blog XML to WordPress specific WXR format.

  1. Export your Blogger blogspot.com blog. This will allow you to download your Blogger blog in blogger specific XML format.
  2. Now got to your newly created WordPress.com site dashboard.
  3. Go to Tools-> Import -> Blogger
  4. Here there are two options . First one is to import directly from Blogger. This may not work since you may face the same error.
  5. Second option is to directly import fro Blogger export file. You can export the blogger XML file if the size is less than 15MB.Import-Blogger-blog-to-Wordpress
  6. After successful import you can use the Export tool to export the file in WXR format.
  7. Finally once you created proper WXR file you delete the new blog created for this purpose.

Please remember that this is a workaround. Please don’t misuse the WordPress.com service.

  1. Thank you so much for this post. I spent an hour trying to figure out why the Blogger Import plugin wouldn't let me "authorize". I was getting pretty frustrated and was glad I stumbled upon this post in a google search result!! Method 1 worked for me like a charm.

  2. thank you so much.

I was facing this problem for so long, even tryied usign wordpress.com (as in method 3), but using the Blogger Importer is the only way one can do a proper 301 redirection from Blogger. Method 1 worked!
