If you’re planning to reinstall your windows operating system, you will need your unique product key (CD key) or serial number which normally is located with the original CD or DVD.
If you’ve lost your product key then it is difficult to recover that. It will be there in windows registry but finding it is not that easy. There are many free tools that can be used to find your windows key and serial number.
Windows Product Key Finder or WPKF is a free tool from Microsoft CodePlex which can be used to find your windows key and serial number. The good thing about “Windows Product Key Finder” is that you don’t have to install the software.
It is an executable and just double click to retrieve your Windows Product Key. A small window will appear with the serial number and Click on the ‘Find Key” button to find your product key.
